Go deeper into the Decode Scripture episode with this printable Decoded Map on following Jesus, the mind of Christ, and the divided human brain.
This PDF companion is designed for personal study and helps you revisit the core structure behind the episode in a clear, written format.
Inside, you'll find:
• the surface reading of following Jesus as loyalty, correct belief, behavior, and lifelong discipleship
• the decoded meaning of Christ being formed within rather than followed only as an external figure
• key verses decoded from Colossians 1:27, James 1:8, Matthew 6:3, Galatians 4:19, Philippians 2:5, 1 Corinthians 2:16, John 17:21-23, Ephesians 4:13, and Romans 12:2
• the connection between the double-minded man and the problem of inner division
• the two brain hemispheres, split-brain research, and the corpus callosum as the connecting band between them
• an honesty guard addressing split-brain exaggerations and the left-brain versus right-brain personality myth
• a ten-minute practice for noticing inner narration and returning to direct physical sensation
This Decoded Map explores following Jesus not simply as walking behind an external teacher, but as the inward formation of the mind described throughout the New Testament.
It brings together the phrases "Christ in you," "Christ be formed in you," "let this mind be in you," "we have the mind of Christ," and "be transformed by the renewing of your mind." Read together, these passages repeatedly place the transformation inside the person rather than somewhere ahead of them.
The map examines James's description of the double-minded man as unstable and connects the original idea of being two-souled with the anatomical fact that the human brain is divided into two hemispheres. It then explores the corpus callosum, the large band of nerve fibers whose role is to help the separated halves communicate and function together.
The science section discusses split-brain surgery and the laboratory research associated with Roger Sperry while making clear that split-brain patients are not two separate people living inside one body. It also rejects the popular myth that people are simply left-brained and logical or right-brained and creative.
The map further examines language, inner narration, and studies reporting structural differences in the connecting band of long-term meditators. These findings are presented as associations and suggestive parallels, not as scientific proof of the biblical interpretation.
The practice section invites you to sit upright for ten minutes, place attention on the physical sensation of breathing or the space behind the eyes, notice when internal words begin, and return repeatedly to direct sensation. The noticing is the practice, not the achievement of perfect silence.
